ERT Training Modules

Below are the two ERT training modules, with particular attention to the modules on the use of the ERTLab and TOMOLab software.

For information on the modules and courses, please contact us at +39 0586 864734 or by filling out the form below and indicating the module you are interested in.

ERT1 Module: Introduction to Electrical Resistivity Tomography

The aim of this module is to provide a detailed overview of the theory and practice of acquiring and inverting geoelectrical measurements of apparent resistivity and induced polarization, with a focus on 2D profiles.

The module also provides training in the use of IRIS Syscal georesistivity meters, from a description of the instrument to the steps for performing measurements: sequence creation, acquisition parameter setup, acquisition, field measurement quality control, data download, pre-processing, and interpretation.

ERT2 Module: TomoLab Software

Introduction to the use of TomoLab software for 2D inversion of apparent resistivity and chargeability data.

Description of the algorithms underlying the program.

  • Data import (multiple arrays, joining of different files, roll-along measurements, topography)
  • Measurement pre-processing (interactive pseudo-sectioning, graphical removal, and numerical filtering of measurements)
  • Definition of inversion parameters (background resistivity, mesh parameters, noise)
  • Inversion and processing examples
  • Graphical representations of inverted sections (color scales, labeling, image optimization)
  • Advanced features (import and inversion of resistivity measurements acquired with drag-and-drop systems, 3D graphical editing of inverted 2D profiles, graphical and numerical export).

ERT3 Module: ERTLab Software

This module provides an in-depth description of the three components of the ERTLab Studio™ software for 2D and 3D inversion of electrical resistivity and chargeability measurements. Participants are directly involved in using the tools provided by the software for the design and interpretation of 3D electrical tomography measurements.

The module guides you through sequence generation and the use of survey design support tools (sensitivity analysis and direct modeling). Particular attention is paid to illustrating data preprocessing criteria, describing mesh generation techniques, and defining the inversion approach.

Further attention is paid to setting all configuration parameters (boundary conditions, noise, and other mathematical parameters) that influence the final inversion result. Finally, techniques for enhancing inversion results using the various graphical features available in ERTLab Studio™ are described.

The module involves field data collection near the course location and its interpretation.
