FGS-04e

The FGS-04e is a low-noise, 3-axis fluxgate sensor. It extends the frequency range for magnetotelluric (MT) measurements to direct current (DC). The sensor’s core is a Bartington Mag-13 MCL.

For low frequencies, all transfer functions are linear. This sensor is designed for crustal studies where periods of 10,000 seconds and longer are required. Recording time for such periods is three to eight weeks, depending on data quality (magnetic activity and external interference from anthropogenic noise).

The fluxgate sensor measures the total magnetic field (B). An induction coil measures dB/dt.

Good coincidence is observed for periods longer than 30 seconds. For higher frequencies (shorter periods), a fluxgate sensor cannot be used for MT measurements.
